What is NightSkyRegister.org?
The NightSkyRegister.org is one of the worlds largest, and most recognised database of stars.
What is the Right Ascension (RA) and Declination DEC?
The right ascension (RA) and Declanation (DEC) together form the astromically verified address of your star. Essentially it is the co-ordinates of the star in the night sky.
What is the Magnitude?
The magnitude is the measure of brightness of any celestial body, such as stars. The lower the magnitude, the brighter the object.
Why can't I find my Star on the Night Sky Register?
Ensure you are using the correct unique number or star name when searching. Also check your documentation to ensure that the star you are searching for was registered by one of our partners, as only stars registered with us will be visible in the Night Sky Register.
Is my star unique? Are stars every renamed more than once?
We guarantee that your star will be unique, and named only once. We never rename a star more than once.
What source is used to map my star?
The Hipparcos and Tycho catalogues
How many stars can be named?
There are over 2 million stars available for registration
How long will a star name last?
The Night Sky Register is operated independently from other sites and our database is backed up on various backup servers. This means that your star name is secure, and will never be cancelled or removed from our database
How do I search for my star?
Use the search bar above and search for youe unqiue star number as per your documentation or your star name
How do I view my star?
After you have searched for your star, simply click the "View" button and you will be taken to a Sky Map showing you exactly where your star is located in the Night Sky
Can I view a star that has not been registered with you?
No, you can only view stars that have been registered with our database. Stars that have been registered with other databases can not be viewed on NightSkyRegister.org
Is this official?
Night Sky Register is an official private star database. The only institution however that is able to issue a scientific name of  a star is the IAU (International Astronomic Union)
Is my Star visible with the naked eye?
Due to various factors out of our control we are unable to guarantee that your star will be visible with the naked eye. We do however guarantee that your star will be visible with the use of a telescope and on the Night Sky Register
Can I view my star with a telescope?
Absolutely! We provide the official atronomical address of each star, allowing you to view your star with a telescope or sky viewing platform
I want to name a star, what do I do next?
Great! visit yourstar.co.za to view the various packages that are available and to go ahead and register your star.
What type of names can I use to name my star?
To suite every type of occassion, you can name your star anything you like!
The only thing we will not allow is profanity, or registered trademarks
Can I rename a star that has been registered?
Once a star has been registered into the database, unfortunately there is no way to rename this star.
